Project #5

Engineering Pathways to the Future – Building Interest, Engagement and Achievement

K-16 Collaborative is working to build interest and engagement in the engineering field.

This collaboration with Reedley College will increase and diversify the amount of students pursuing engineering by offering guided pathways to skill certification, associate degrees, and bachelor’s degrees.

Pathway:

Future engineers in Reedley need look no further than Project #5! This project hopes to increase and diversify the amount of students pursuing engineering. It will offer pathways to skill certification, associate degrees, and bachelor’s degrees through our Guided Pathways model. Ideally with this many different end results being offered, every student will be able to find a pathway that satisfies their academic desires and future career dreams. Phase 1 of the project will see STEM outreach and engagement activities being offered in elementary, middle, and high school populations, meaning that children of all ages will receive positive exposure to engineering. We will also see students be recruited into dual enrollment coursework where they will be able to explore careers within engineering and STEM. Offered pathways will include Manufacturing, Geomatics, Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Computer, Biomedical, and Environmental engineering. We will create many of our pathways in consultation with both Fresno State and UC Merced.

We will share facilities to bring top-tier educational programming close to disadvantaged students through dual enrollment and special support programs for high schools. Students will get to participate in practical training, which includes summer internships.
